Chukporisum (6359m)

The Virgin Summits team were back in business in 2003 with four members heading to Tibet in mid-September where they explored and climbed in the little known Nyainqentangla East range.

After a difficult approach cut off by landslides 40km short of the road head, they made the first attempt on the unexplored peak of Chukporisum (6359m) and in very difficult weather conditions, reached a highpoint of 6180m.

The expedition was fortunate enough to be well supported and won one of W. L. Gore & Associates' prestigious Shipton/Tilman Awards, with further cash grants from the BMC, the MEF, the Alpine Club of Canada and Helly Hansen. Additional support came from the Canadian Himalayan Foundation, Terra Nova, Ottakar's Bookshop and Gulf Air.

As always, the team would like to thank all their sponsors for the continued support that makes these expeditions possible.
